On August 23 and 24, 2003, we invite you to the New York Geocaching Organization's (NYGO) 2003 State Picnic being held at Sampson State Park. The park is located in Romulus, NY on the east shore of Seneca Lake.
This is a two-day action-packed, activity-filled extravaganza! There will be raffles with lots of prizes. The event will run all day Saturday through Sunday, so be sure to make camping arrangements. We have a number of activities in the works for all ages:
There are 245 electric campsites (loops 1-5), each loop equiped with running water and hot showers. Camping requires a two-night reservation. The park features biking trails, swimming, tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts, playgrounds, fishing, and open fields. There is also a navel museum, and a 123-berth marina.
Update: Campsites are going fast. If you want to come, please don't wait too long to make a resevation. There are other parks nearby that also offer camping, but you will want to be right where the action is!
This is a 1905 acre park. While the activities can be done on foot or in cars, we strongly encourage you to bring out your bikes. The park does have some bike rentals available.
Pets are allowed with a 6-foot leash, and proof of rabies vaccination.
The event is free to attend (although there is a $6 parking charge). We have reserved a large covered pavillion for both days, so it will be held rain or shine. We will coordinate two pot-luck style lunches. Details to come.
The park may also be hosting a hot-air balloon festival that weekend, as if there wasn't already enough to do!
Update: The attendee list is now being maintained by Strikeforce1. Please visit the following cache page so that we can track who is coming and what you will be bringing for the pot-luck lunches. Thanks!
