Geocache Description:

This cache is a replacement for the "Mudhole Cache" which was archived in the fall of 2002.

Where else on the "North Coast" can you drive on a sand flat at lake's edge à la Daytona Beach? This unusual site has become famous as a wildlife sanctuary, hosting numerous species of gulls and shorebirds.

The difficulty in reaching/finding this cache is extremely variable. A new road has been put in so that it is now possible to drive in quite close to the cache. No bush wacking is needed now. .

CAUTION: Driving on the sand is safe for a 2WD vehicle, but 4WDs have gotten stuck if they get careless and "off-road it" too far. A safe approach can be made to within 50 feet of the cache.

As of this posting (April 18, 2006), the approach road to the sandflats is barricaded for the winter, necessitating about 0.2 miles' walk to reach the cache. Going in a straight line is never the best way to reach this cache. Start from N 41 57.838 W 80 33.605 if the dock is barricaded. In August,2017 the park is now charging $5.00 a car,$3 senior citizens, to enter. This may only be on weekends or other busy times but I'm not sure. No charge to walk in. Check with the gate keeper.
The cache container is an small plastic container.
