Geocache Description:

If your looking for an adventure then this cache is for you!! Grab your day-pack and GPS and hit the trail. An initial word of warning is that the cache is not at the coords listed above. The seeker must solve a geo-metric puzzle before locating the cache's hiding place.

Parking Lat: 30° 31.673 N Long: 95° 13.196 W

This is a multi-leg cache located in the Sam Houston National Forest on the Lone Star Hiking Trail.

PARKING: A trailhead parking lot is located at 30° 31.673 N, 095° 13.196 W.

HIKING: You can get a trail map from the L.S.H.T. club's map page. Just click on the "Magnolia" button to download a printable PDF file.

CACHING: The geo-metric puzzle that the cache seeker will need to solve involves the coordinates I've listed above and the static object, the Lone Star Hiking Trail (LSHT). I have supplied a treasure map for a general idea for locating the cache. You may want to print this map out separately so you can have it on the trail. The seeker must find two reference points along the LSHT (A & B on the map). With these two reference points the seeker must then wander on the opposite side of the LSHT to locate the cache. This cache calls for a patient person and someone willing to part with some blood during the mosquito season. Here are detailed steps for the seeker to take:

1. Start with hiking from the Magnolia parking lot heading east along the LSHT.

2. When you come within 400 feet of the coords stop to get an accurate GPS reading. In theory, there should be only two points along the LSHT that will be 400ft from the coords. This is the first of those two points. Be sure to wait for a considerable amount of time and adjust your position on the trail to get your GPS to read that you are exactly 400ft from the coords. Be sure you're standing on the trail! Save this location as a waypoint on your GPS reciever. I will refer to this waypoint as point A.

3. Now continue on the trail until you are again exactly 400ft from the coords. This time you should be oriented somewhat north of the coords. Wait for a good GPS reading and save this location as waypoint B.

4. At this time you should be equiped to locate the cache itself which is positioned across the trail from the coords. Hike out on the opposite side of the trail until you are exactly 400ft from both point A and point B. This location is hiding place for the cache.

A general word of warning, if you are inaccurate in your reference point collecting, you will be searching in a very large area for the cache. Take your time when getting these reference points, and you should get fairly close to the cache. I've tested this a number of times and every time I got at least 20 feet from the cache itself. You can also implement a method of getting multiple A points and then averaging. Same with the B points.

There is a camera in the cache for all those who find it to take a picture of themselves. It is not a prize so please return it to the cache container when your done. On this webpage please don't list any of the coordinates that you take while you are out there, especially your coords to the cache itself. It could ruin the fun for the next seeker. Any logs with posted coords for point A or point B or the cache will be deleted.

CAMPING: Its not necessary to campout overnight for this cache, however there is a primitive campsite (30° 31.598 N, 95° 12.159 W) close by which is equiped with a fire pit and tent pads.

HINTS: The following hints start with generic info and ends with specific. So you can decifer one step at a time and not spoil yourself too much.

WARNINGS: Here are a number of things that you should take note of before you venture out for this cache. There are many insects (mosquitoes & ticks), arachnids (spiders & scorpions), poisonous snakes (copperheads & coral snakes), poison ivy, animals (wild hog & bobcat) and hunters (bubba & joe bob) that live and dwell in these woods. Take proper precautions when hiking and prodding around in the bushes while searching for this cache. Wear sun lotion in the sun; bug juice when its warm; neon orange clothes during deer hunting season (end of September to mid January); pants when walking through brush. Bring a lot of water to drink if you plan to hike in the summer time.

Regardless of the warnings this is really a safe place to hike around. Enjoy Nature!!

Travel Bugs that have visited this cache: alien in a bottle, Spider Van.
