Welcome to Camel’s Back. Once you’re there, take some time to look around. You’ll have one of the greatest views for the Southern half of Utah Valley. Make sure you don’t forget your camera. And make sure you go on a clear day. Also I’d be interested in seeing how many caches or cacher’s houses can be seen from here. Let me know.
You will need a high clearance vehicle anytime during the year, but since Squaw Peak Trail is gated during the winter months you will need a snowmobile or 4wd 4-wheeler then. You can access Squaw Peak trail from two points, Provo Canyon or Hobble Creek Canyon Left Hand Fork. The shorter route is from Hobble Creek Canyon. From the gated parking area in Hobble Creek it is about a 13 mile round trip drive. Camel’s Back is about a 1/4 mile from the Squaw Peak Trail. During the summer months I’ve been able to drive within 30 feet of the cache, but that was in my younger days when I didn’t have to pay for my own vehicles.
You will be ascending from about 4330 ft on the valley floor to about 7900 ft at Camel’s Back. The entire round trip from the mouth of Hobble Creek is about 25 miles.
As you can see I’m happy to introduce Arnold the Golfer back into the Cachunuts game. After a long sabbatical while visiting Hawaii, Arizona, Florida and Michigan Arnold has finally come home. If you take this or any of the other Cachunuts please log them at www.cachunuts.com.
