Geocache Description:

There is a lot of history in Aqueduct Park. The aqueduct was built in 1857 on the original Erie Canal to carry water over Mud Creek. The 144-year-old Aldrich Change Bridge is now fully restored. A change bridge allowed mules towing barges to reverse directions without having to be unhitched and transported across the canal. The 74-foot-long, 14-foot-wide bridge was built in 1858 and originally sat over the canal in Rochester. It is the oldest surviving cast iron bridge in the state, and the only surviving canal change bridge. The restored bridge spans the original Erie Canal bed which is over 175 years old. The cache is a large container painted camouflage. Please be sure to re-hide the cache well so the next person can enjoy the hunt. The section of the park where the cache is hidden includes original segments of the Erie Canal. There is also marshland teeming with wildlife like mallards, heron, blue jays, and turtles. There are a couple of different trails leading to the cache location so choose wisely. The trail(s) start out easy, but the last 100 feet to the cache may be tricky. Enjoy your adventure!
