This Cache IS at the Posted Coordinates!
This old cache has been around a long time. Placed in July of 2001, it proudly owns the identifier GCF08, which is cache number 3,848. This is the oldest active mystery cache in Austin (see challenge: GC4QB5G), 2nd oldest mystery in Texas, and 14th oldest mystery cache in the world! The cache is at the posted location, so why exactly it is a mystery, is a mystery. [NOTE: see Update below.]
[Statistics as of April 2017] There are only 1,290 active caches in the world that are older than this cache, putting in in the top 0.05% of oldest caches. In Texas, it is the 38th oldest active cache.
[Statistics as of Feb 13, 2023] There are only 1,225 active caches in the world that are older than this cache, putting in in the top 0.05% of oldest caches. There has not been a significant drop in this number in 6 years. In Texas, it is the 40th oldest active cache (an INCREASE by two since 2017, hmmm????)
PUZZLE: The combination for the lock on the cache container is the alphabetic number equivalent (A=1, B=2, etc.) of the first letter of the current currency from the following countries: Thailand, Nicaragua, Iraq, and France.
You can validate your puzzle solution with
certitude.
FEB 13, 2023 UPDATE: An easy puzzle and a combination lock were added to make this an actual puzzle cache. Prior to this there was no puzzle to solve.
Original Cache Description:
Punt those extra Pounds, be Franc, break your Shekels and Lev your Markka. You can't eat those Drachmas for Dinar so swap'em for some Rupees or Krona. Guilders welcome? EU betcha, but Won at a time.
The idea of this cache is to exchange currency from around the world. Please bring change or small bills you may have from countries far and wide and deposit them in this historic cache.
Over the years this cache has been owned and maintained by many great cachers and each deserves our thanks for maintaining great caches and helping to make the sport popular for the rest of us. Thanks to: Eoghan, TxHiPowr, PI Joe, and ATXTracker, who have all had a hand in maintaining this cache throughout the years.
