Geocache Description:

Much of this one can be done without leaving the car. The final cache is on conservation land in Woburn. Four points on an exact circle are given below. The above coordinates are a good place to start, but you can start anywhere. Your geometry problem is to find the center of this circle where I have encoded the coordinates of the final cache, which is somewhere inside this circle. The theme of the problem is circular shapes.

The final cache coordinates are encoded on the circular base of a fire hydrant near the center. The radius of the circle is very close to 1 mile. You’ll have to write down a few numbers along the way to decode the coordinates at the center.

1. Go to the above coordinates.
You can learn all about circles up here.
What is that circular shape you see nearby?
The final cache is near one of these of a different color.
You can even see it from here.
Count the windows near the coordinates. Call this number F.

2. N 42 29.411 W 71 9.810
You should be on a circular road.
What is the address of this house ? Call this number T.

3. N 42 27.755 W 71 10.587
You should be near a yellow house that has lamps with circular bulbs. How many lamps ? Call this number L.
What is the number on the mailbox? Call this number M.

4. N 42 28.028 W 71 9.527
You don’t have to visit here, unless you are also doing Collinear Caches on this trip. This area is used by the locals for walking, fishing, hiking, etc.
These coordinates may help to confirm or aid your calculations.

5. Now go find the center of this circle. It may be helpful to mark the above points on a map and estimate the center of the circle. There you will see a circular monument on an isosceles trapezoid sitting in a triangle. The adjacent fire hydrant has the encoded coordinates of the North and West decimal minutes of the cache location. The best parking for the cache is at
( N 42 28.YY1 , W 71 09.WX0 )unless you like bushwhacking up some very steep treacherous terrain.

The following formulae are very useful:

W = M – L
X = F + L
Y = T + 2

The cache contains , 4 of a kind, a candle, patriotic pompoms, a cache card, a polished stone, a Tanya Tucker/Leann Rimes CD and the log book with a pencil in a large coffee can.
Have fun and post some photos of the panoramic view.
