The County’s Great GeoCaching Bear Hunt will be
part of the Roosevelt County Heritage day celebration on June 28th
2003. Participants will meet at the
above coordinates no later than 11:00AM. The
ground rules will be discussed and the fun will begin.
Each team will be given an envelope that contains the coordinates of
their first cache. At each cache
there are two sets of envelopes, draw one envelope from the first set.
This envelope must remain sealed until the team checks in with officials
at the end of the game. From the
second set of envelopes pick the envelope with your team’s name, inside you
will find the next set of coordinates. Continue
until you have found 7 caches. Inside the 7th cache you will find the
coordinates for the end of the game meeting place. Go to these coordinates and
officials will check and open your 7 envelopes.
Each envelope contains a playing card.
You will take the 7 cards and make the best poker hand you can use the 2
extra cards as draw cards. Each
team that completes the 7 caches will receive a “Teddy Bear” for successful
completion of the “Hunt”. First,
second and third places will be awarded, also instant “prizes” gift
certificates from Taco Box, Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen, Sonic, KENW-TV/FM, Sport
Lab, Chamber of Commerce, Sunland Inc, Trader Horn True Value, GeoCaching.com,
and the mayor of Portales, NM, Orlando Ortega.
Please check back often, I will be
posting more information, as the event gets closer.
