Geocache Description:

This cache is located near Castlegar BC. Although the trails are well maintained there are several steep sections as well as a few rock slides to cross. Allow at least an hour and a half to reach the cache because even if you are related to a mountain goat you will want to take time to enjoy the many spectacular views along the way.

Turn off Highway 3A at Ootischenia Road - N49 18.758 W117 37.957 - From here follow the signs that lead you to the Castlegar Golf Course. Just before the Golf Course you will begin to see signs for Skattebo Reach Trail Access, follow these signs and park at N49 19.219 W117 36.824. Follow the Skattebo Reach Trail until you reach a well marked intersection to the Brilliant Overlook Trail. As you reach the top of the mountain and are nearing the overlook you will see a signed trail leading to the 'Vise'- follow this to the cache sight. After you find the cache be sure to take the time to check out the Brilliant Overlook at N 49 19.522 W 117 36.489. It offers views of Castlegar as well as the confluence of the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers. In the distance you can see Red Mountain. ******Note: There is a gate at the start of the Skattebo Reach Trail Access Road. The sign states that the gate will be open during daylight hours, 9am - 9pm. If you should find yourself locked inside the gate you can exit by driving back to where the access road joins the powerline service road and then follow this road through the gof course. Drive slowly and be alert for people and golf balls. This is an emergency exit only.
