The Blairstown Airport Cache Multi-Cache
Misty's Shadow: Time to archive this great cache. I'm sad to see it go but the terrain has been changed and it is time to open the area to new caches. Thank you to all who have had fun seeking this one!

The Blairstown Airport Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Located on the Paulins Kill Valley Trail (old railroad bed) near
the Blairstown Airport off Lambert Rd.
This is the first cache I have hidden. Park at the Blairstown
Airport in the main parking lot. Follow the roadway behind (south)
of the main buidings and restaurant. You may see small white
"trail" signs. Follow them. Be aware that the trail is officially
closed after dark. Stay on the roadway and do not approach any of
the aircraft without permission. The trail actually goes through
the airport but due to safety and airport security, stick to the
roadway on the south side of the airport, behind the restaurant.
You will go through a chain link fence and along the taxi-way for a
few feet as you near the first stage of the cache. Aircraft have
the right-of-way! If you go on a nice weekend you can enjoy
watching many airplanes and gliders takeoff and land. Take a look
at the lake on your left. Often there are swans and migratory
waterbirds gliding across it's surface. The lake is the site of the
original landing strip in 1926. A year later a dam was built and
the meadow flooded to form the lake. The airport was then moved to
it's present location. The Paulins Kill Valley Trail is made from
an old railroad bed and goes from Sparta, NJ, 26 miles down to
Columbia, NJ. It is a very enjoyable walk, bike ride, or horseback
ride on a good, firm surface. After you have found the cache, you
may enjoy a walk or ride further along the trail either direction.
There are several other geocaches hidden along the trail to the
east. On your way back to your car, stop at the Runway Cafe' and
refresh yourself with a bite to eat and sit and watch the planes.
Be careful on busy weekends as you will be easily seen from the
trail and the airport. Also...I use a Garmin 95XL GPS. It is an
older aviation GPS that works great when flying but tends to be off
a little when geocaching (by about 100'). The trees really affect
it. The first few cachers here had the fun of using the coordinates
I got off it. The most recent coordinates posted here are now from
Earth Mother's hiking GPS. 9/9/06 Thattazguy & I changed the
first stage considerably due to modifications the airport did to
it's hiding place. It is a bit harder than originally so I have
changed the rating slightly. Please carefully replace it as you
found it! Happy geocaching!
