Do you remember the
Burma-Shave signs that used to dot our country from 1925 up to
1964? Whether or not you do, this cache will give you just a taste
of the fun us “mature” people had as we traveled the
highways of America in that era. Burma-Shave was a
“brushless” shaving cream but a large number of the
verses had nothing to do with shaving at all.
Burma-Shave signs always
(with a few exceptions) consisted of six signs spaced along the
highway. Each sign had only part of the message such that as you
progressed along you got the entire message one sign at a time. The
last sign always (with one exception) had the Burma-Shave logo.
Most of us remember them as bright red with white lettering (there
were some other colors in earlier years and in some
locations).

Got the idea? OK, here is what this cache is
about. The above cords are for the first “sign”. There
you will find a small item attached to some permanent object with
the word(s) of the first sign and the coordinate minutes (degrees
are all the same as above) for the next “sign” and so
on. The last or “Burma-Shave” is a regular cache
– an “ammo can”.
All the “signs” are within a
two-mile radius. I hope you enjoy this variation on the
“cache theme”. I got this idea from a
“Burma” cache in Utah but I see there are a few others
around the country.
Only to make it less
likely for someone to find a “sign” and lead them to
the cache, only the parts of the coordinates that change from where
you are will be given with a plus sign between and N/W understood.
For example: “2 + 37 + 3.246”, would mean you are
headed for sign #2 and from where you are, change the last two
digits of the north latitude to “37” and the last four
digits of the west longitude to “3.246”. This way it
looks to others much less like latitude/longitude
settings.
If
this cache has a “theme” it would be
“memorabilia” but any trade items will work. I do try
to keep it “stocked” with my “signature”
ball point pens and plenty of copies of “Let The Little
Shavers Grow” which is a one page epistle on the Burma-Shave
signs of yore. You are welcome to take a copy without a trade. You
may find some other papers of the “memorabilia” theme
as well as some other trade items.
As always try to be discrete as you
search so as not to atract attention - especially the last "cache"
and be sure to replace it so that it is well hidden. There is no
need to go beyond the gate to the well known restaurant up on the
mountain. Enjoy.
By the way, this
cache could be done in the winter with snow on the ground with very
little dificulty. >
