Geocache Description:

Your hunt begins in the seaside resort of Largs that has led a thriving existence since the Vikings were defeated there in 1263.

From here you need to take a sail on either Loch Riddon(MV) or Loch Alainn(MV) to the Isle of Great Cumbrae (unless of course you’re lucky enough to live on the Island). The return ferry fair will cost you £3.25 on foot or £5.35 if cycling (highly recommended).

Cumbrae is a paradise for cyclists. The 10.25 mile circumference provides breathtaking scenery from quiet winding roads and the hillier inner route provides the more adventurous with stunning panoramas over the firth (as well as some great treasure in our hidden cache). There are several cycle hire shops in Millport where all types of cycle can be rented for all ages (buses meet every ferry to take you the couple of miles to Millport if on foot).

After around a 3 mile cycle from the ferry slip (this route up the hill is far easier than from the Millport side) and a gentle climb of around 415 feet you find yourself at the islands highest point providing superb views in all directions taking in the Isle of Arran, Bute and the Cowal Peninsula - as well as the Ayrshire Coast

When near the cache site, take a wander to where you will be well received and look for the biggest gorse bush close-by. The cache box is wrapped in a green bag nestling under the big gorse bush.

In the cache you will find goodies including a Skystreme Rescue Kite, Factor 35 sun-block (hope you might be glad of this when you visit), Pocket Guide Book to Rocks, Gems and Minerals, Silva Compass Key Ring, 'The Amazing Folding Coat hanger', batteries, A Book of Scottish Mystery Walks, and much more.

Enjoy, and happy caching.
