Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
The cache requires a 4x4 with some sand driving involved so the usual safety equipment should be carried by the convoy - this is not a single vehicle trip.
The approach to the cache can be either through the Hidden Valley or Hafirat Nesah. Through the Hidden Valley turn sharp right in the direction of Hafirat Nesah immediately past Sphinx Rock. Via Hafirat Nesah, set your GPS for "The Redoubt" to guide you through the farms into open country.
From either direction you will find that the natural routes keep you to one side of a very pretty, broad and sandy valley. The cache is to other side and requires some sand driving to approach - there are very few obvious approaches but the driving in this environment is fairly straightforward and over relatively easy sand.
Both routes in are frequently travelled by those who like to visit the desert but we have never seen "visitors" to this side of the valley - the Wadi you enter is extremely pretty and well worth the trip either as a day trip or to camp out.
The ascent to the cache requires a fairly steep climb alongside one face of the Acropolis - however the error on the GPS at the cache is 17m. It is not the intention that searchers have to scramble over the slopes and the published pictures are intended to help to find the cache which is hidden in a natural cave formed by large fallen slabs from the cliff. The cache is visible from 3 sides - 2 require you to be looking directly at the correct spot - from the third side it is plainly visible and not "entombed" but that is the hardest angle to obtain.
Take the time to look around the area during and after the cache hunt - you will find many examples of sea fossils in the area and can you also find Faisals second pinnicle nearby?
The inital cache contains:
- A large turtle (which you should not take unless you replace with an equivalent)
-A Mr Nessie Bean bag
-A Smiley Key Ring
-A Cool Dude Door Hanger
-A Cool Chick Key ring
-A compass for those who have lost their way!
Good hunting and enjoy the trip.
