Geocache Description:

Lego Dan loves trains. In fact he and I volunteer as conductors on the Poway Midland Railroad in Poway, Ca (see the cache “I could eat a cow!”). So on a recent trip to Laws RR Museum and Death Valley National Park, we decided to do 3 “Virtual” caches related to trains.

The Carson and Colorado Railroad (narrow gauge) stretched from Mound House (East of Carson City), Nevada to Keeler (East of Lone Pine), Ca. They had planned to run the railroad from the Carson River (at Mound House, Nevada) to the Colorado River (Hence the name of the Railroad). It never reached the Colorado River but stopped at Keeler, California. It has often been referred to as “the railroad that was built 300 miles too long or 300 years too soon.” In was incorporated on May 10, 1880 and ceased operations in February 1959. Two of the engines still exist in the Owens Valley. One in Independence (Just west of Hwy 395) and the other one at the Laws Railroad Museum, just northeast of Bishop, off Hwy 6.

To gain credit for this cache, you must email me (don't post it-and this is how you email me-To email me, go to my profile and click that then go to “send message”. That is the only way I am going to be able to reply to you because if you do it differently, it will mean that I will have to search for your profile to email you if you were correct or incorrect, and I don’t want to do that.)

You must email me:

2 PLAQUES AND A SIGN AND I WANT THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION FOR YOU TO RECEIVE CREDIT-

        1)     Give me the month and year this train was given to the people of Inyo County and by who.

    2)    What year was the plaque dedicated and by what chapter of the E. Clampus Vitus?

         3)    And what is the name of the organization that is trying to restore this engine?

And for your information, there used to be mention of what kind of valve gear was special to this locomotive. It was the Walschaerts valve gear
