Geocache Description:

Scotty’s Castle is located near the North East end of Death Valley National Park. This is the “Castle” made famous by “Death Valley Scotty” and built by Chicago millionaire Albert Johnson. For more information about this “Castle” visit the NPS site: http://www.nps.gov/deva/scottys1.htm

Being a retired NPS Ranger, I love all the Parks, but Death Valley has always been a special park to me. Scotty's Castle is one part of the park that always amazes me.. You're always finding new things around. When I heard about this new tour, I knew that I had to go. So in April of 2003, Lego Dan and I headed to Scotty's Castle.

So what about this new "Technology" tour? Instead of the usual above ground tour, visiting the different rooms inside, there is the “Technology” tour. This tour, if it is running when you go (check before hand) is well worth it because you actually get to go underneath the “Castle” and see the technology that was used to build and run the “Castle” (And it is pretty amazing).

Here's the link for the technology tour: http://www.nps.gov/deva/Scottys/technology_tour.htm

To do this cache, you really don’t have to go on the tour (which does cost). To get credit for this cache, you will need to email me (To email me, go to my profile and click that then go to “send message”. That is the only way I am going to be able to reply to you because if you do it differently, it will mean that I will have to search for your profile to email you if you were correct or incorrect, and I don’t want to do that.) the name of the creature that forms the shape of the outside door handle of the door (leading to the basement), just to the west of the south facing door (faces the pool).

To receive extra credit for this cache (and you will have to go on the tour for this one, or find a Ranger that will tell you), what is stored throughout the basement for (what was to be) future use in the construction of the “Castle”.

BTW, I recently had a geocacher tell me to “lighten up” because I would not give them credit for this cache because they had not provided any kind of information to show that they tried. They believed that since they came from another state, that I should give them credit just for that. I’m sorry, but to get credit, you have to provide the information that I have requested. If you don’t like it, then remember that this is a “treasure hunt” and you need to find the answers to get the credit.
