Located off the Onondaga Link trail near Shackham brook lean to. Can be reached either by Parking on Shackham Rd and hiking up the trail or by parking on Morgan Hill Rd. and Hiking down, either way will require some uphill walking. Entering from Shackham Rd. provides nice views of shackham brook.
Left the cache after Backpacking in from spruce pond (the Long way to the cache) on an overnight trip. Stayed on top of Jones Hill and hiked down to cache site in the morning. Awsome trip I highly recommend, however trail between Spruce pond and Jones hill needs some work.
The Onondaga Trail is a Loop trail that starts at spruce pond in the Morgan State Forest and travels over Jones hill to Tinkerfalls then heads down to follow Shackham Brook wich leads to the Lean to and then farther to Morgan Hill and the Finger Lakes Trail. If you have the time and energy I recommend starting at the trail head and camping at the Lean to.
The trail form Shackham Rd., Or Morgan Hill Rd. is clear and well marked however the only trail map I could find was in Fifty Hikes in Central New York: Hikes and Backpacking Trips from the Western Adirondacks to the Finger Lakes
by William P. Ehling.
