Here is a virtual cache that will take you to an area of great
interest that otherwise tourists and locals alike might miss.
The primary goal is to find the item situated at the given
co-ordinates. To log your find, message me thru GC.com with the following
information that can be found there. Who loves who? And in
what years? Finds logged without this information will be
deleted.
After finding the cache, you can then go on to look for the Kiti
Tower a little way along the coast to the north east. The tower is
a stone watch-tower built by the Venetians as part of an
early-warning system designed to prevent the invasion of Cyprus by
the Turks in the 16th century.
From there find your way back to the village of Kiti, the site
of the church of Panagia Angeloktistos (Our Lady Built by Angels)
which was rebuilt in the 12th century on a fifth century
foundation. Its mosaic of the Virgin and Child accompanied by the
Archangels Gabriel and Michael is one of only seven sixth-century
Byzantine religious mosaics to survive in the Orthodox world. The
workmanship of its tiny squares of coloured and precious stones is
outstanding.
Three sights well worth seeing in the space of a couple of
miles.
