This cache is located in Lake Sakakawea State Park on the North Country National Scenic Trail. A quarter of a mile hike on easy to moderate terrain will get you to the cache.
The park is the western terminus of the North Country Trail, which traverses 7 states and over 3,200 miles to upstate New York. You will only have to hike a quarter of a mile to the cache but you will want to continue on and explore the park. Keep your eyes open for a wide variety of wildflowers, birds and other wildlife. Be sure to stop at the visitor center and learn more about what you saw and the story of our namesake ‘Sakakawea’, Native American guide for the Lewis and Clark expedition. The park also has a full service marina, picnic shelters, playgrounds, camping, cabins and interpretive programs.
Lake Sakakawea State Park is located at Pick City just off Hwy 200 on the west side of Garrison Dam. There is a $5 entrance fee. There is no charge if you hike or bike in from town.
Park at the Visitor Center and follow the North Country Trail to the coordinates. You should find yourself about twenty feet off the trail. It is hidden in the grass but easily seen when you look back toward the trail. Expect wood ticks and some mosquitoes in the summer.
The cache is an ammo can. Please sign the logbook and take a picture of yourself or something that strikes your fancy with the camera enclosed.
