jonboy: I'm archiving my caches because I've lost interest in Geocaching and don't want to leave a bunch of abandoned caches in my name.

Geocache Description:

An interesting glacial kettle pond located at the south end of the Westmoreland Sanctuary, the trail can be wet.

You can park at the Westmoreland Sanctuary on Chestnut Ridge Rd and follow the trails in, but I parked on Rt 22 (41 10.483' 73 40.120') and bushwacked in, staying on the right bank of the stream to avoid the private property. Once there, you really should follow the trail around to get a better look at the pond, there is a boardwalk that takes you across some wetland. I was curious about a couple of ditches that were dug, in what I would suppose would be a friutless effort to drain the pond, but I wonder if it could have been bigger before the ditches? The cache is a 30 caliber ammo can and has the usual goodies.
