This cache is located in the Swatara Creek Park, which is easily accessed from Route 39 to Hanover Street (Village of Union Deposit) The park sits down the street and across Route 39 from HersheyPark Stadium which is where I saw my first Dave Matthews Band concert on July 29, 1998.
David John Matthews was born on January 9, 1967 in Johannesburg, South Africa. His family moved around quite a bit, living briefly in Yorktown Heights, NY and Cambridge, England, eventually ending up again in NY. It was back in the USA when Dave first began his guitar playing. At age 9, Dave took his first guitar lesson. After his father passed away his mother then moved the family back to South Africa.
Dave fled the apartheid in 1986, and settled in Charlottesville, VA, where his parents lived before he was born. It was in Charlottesville where Matthews became part of the local music community and hatched the idea for his own band. The Dave Matthews Band formed in early 1991, when Dave decided to put some songs he had written on tape. Instead of simply recording himself with a guitar, he opted to bring in some instrumental help to give his musical ideas more depth. Dave found assistance in drummer Carter Beauford and saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who were both accomplished jazz musicians in the local Charlottesville music scene. Based on the recommendation of distinguished local jazz guru John D’earth, 16-year-old musical prodigy Stefan Lessard came on board to play bass. Completing the band was the talented and classically trained violinist, Boyd Tinsley. Seven studio albums and five live albums later, the Dave Matthews Band has become one of the most successful touring bands in the country.

The band began recording a new album with producer Steve Lillywhite in the spring of 2000. When the time came to start their summer tour in late June, they still hadn't finished recording the album, and the work was put on hold. The songs from that recording have been unofficially named "The Lillywhite Sessions" by fans on the Internet after they were leaked. The band had distributed early mixes to friends and family while working on the sessions at their custom studio outside of Charlottesville. These CDs were labeled "Summer So Far" and had a variety of rough mixes of the songs that were to be released as the next album. The resulting album, Everyday, did not include any of these songs. All new songs were written and recorded for Everyday. Most of the songs from The Lillywhite Sessions ended up being rerecorded and released in July of 2002 on the album "Busted Stuff."
Park in the parking lot at the park, and cross the two baseball fields to get to a large opening in the trees. Follow the trail to the cache. Cache is not far off trail. **Please be careful, this trail is sometimes used for dirtbikes!** While you're on the trail and around the cache, flip over rocks and I'm sure you'll find salamanders! We found lots when we were there!
I have gotten word that a previous cache at this park was vandalized several times (thanks Klatchjhf for the heads up) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE rehide this cache VERY well!
