Isle a la Cache means "Island of the Hiding Place". It was named by the French Voyageurs who would travel the rivers including the Des Plaines trapping furs and trading with the local Indian tribes. Be sure to visit the Isle a la Cache museum for more details.
Upon entering these woods you may have noticed concrete foundations, sidewalks, a well and other signs of previous habitation. The original town of Romeo was located along 135th which is also known as Romeo Rd. These structures are all that is left of this early settlement of Romeoville.
Park across the street from the woods in the Isle a la Cache museum's parking lot. Traffic can be busy at times, so please be careful crossing the street. And don't forget to bring a garbage bag and CITO!
