A pleasant 1.5 mile walk to and from the cache on well marked paths. Could be muddy after rain. After finding cache, the walk can be extended through High Hoyland, with impressive views, making it a 4 mile circular walk.
Cannon Hall is situated off the A635 near Cawthorne, Barnsley. It has a large pay and display car park ( £ 1.50 all day). Cannon Hall was designed by John Carr of York and is set in over 70 acres of historic parkland which includes beautiful formal gardens and water pools. There is a museum of the 13th/18th Hussars ( Queen Marys Own ) which is must for anyone interested in regimental history. One of the greenhouses is home to a 200year old grape vine, grown from a seed brought back byy John Spencer-Stanhope from Europe in 1802. A cutting from this vine was exported to Austrialia, cultivated, and is the ancestor of to-days excellent Australian wines.
