This is a regular cache located just off the Appalacian Trail near Eckville in State Game Lands #106.The walking distance to the cache is approx. 1.24 miles from the parking lot in Eckville.The trail is easy walking but be advised of a 500ft. increase in altitude over a relatively short distance.You may camp overnite if you are a thru hiker,but sorry,no bikes or horses allowed on this section of the AT.
The starting point for this cache is the Eckville parking lot of state game lands #106. You can reach this lot by traveling Route 61 to Route 895 turning onto Hawk Mountain Road at Drehersville. Contiune on Hawk Mountain Road past the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary until you get to Pine Swamp Road. Coordinates for the parking are N 40 37.523 & W 075 57.216. The Appalacian Trail used to pass thru this parking lot but has been relocated 1/4 mile south along this blue blaze trail. Once the blue blaze trail meets the AT continue following white blazes until you reach the point where the "panther spring" crosses the trail (approx 1 mile). There is a USGS Benchmark along the trail here. See if you can find it! I get coordinates of N 40 36.688 & W 075 57.887. Here the trail continues uphill for another .1 mile where there is a small level area at the point where the trail turns left. From here you are close. Leave the trail & bushwack to the cache. An alternate parking area is located along Hawk Mountain Road at coordinates N 40 38.025 & W 075 57.622. From this point all your foot travel is on the AT.
