Tithe barns were built in mediaeval times to store the taxes or tithes from peasants to the local landowner. There are few barns remaining which are as grand and well maintained as this.
There are excellent facilities adjacent to this cache; the Kennet & Avon canal runs past, there is a playground, cafe and toilets in the country park, and small craft type shops are also located here.
Details of the barn are available at this web site.
Parking is available close to the barn, just follow the signposts. An Ordnance Survey map for this location is available at this web site.
The cache is an ammo box. The last few metres are on a steep slope. Please ensure the cache is well covered when you leave.
