Mike's Not Bluffin' Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

victorymike: Today was an absolutely gorgeous day and I intended to spend it on the trails in the parks of Ann Arbor. Firstly I archived my nearby "Home of the Keubler-Langford Elves" cache. And I decided that it was time to archive this one too...with the intention of placing a few new caches here...maybe more Winter friendly ones.

I passed a tent near the parking lot with signs of recent habitation. It was easy to find stage 1, it was just as I'd left it. Stage 2 had been moved slightly (maybe 5-6 feet from its original location), to a standing rotten pine stumpish thing (about 4-5 feet high) on the hillside. Originally I placed this under a small 6 foot tall pine tree which fell over years ago and is still in place, albeit a dry stick with a dry root ball attached. At the top of the hill was a large homeless encampment of 3-4 tents and chairs with signs of recent habitation.

On my way to the final cache location I was inspired to place a new cache in an area where I sat on a log to take in the view. And I have a few ideas for other hides in this park. But I digress. To the credit of the last finders the cache was NICELY hidden. Great job! I removed the final stage and headed back to my truck. Thanks to everybody who visited my "Not Bluffin'" cache. I hope you enjoyed seeking it as much as I did hiding it years ago and removing it today.

Geocache Description:

This is a 3 stage multi cache placed by permission from the Natural Area Preservation division of Ann Arbor Parks (and actually recommended to me by them...thanks, Eric).

IT IS CRITICAL TO PARK IN THE PROPER LOCATION. PARK AT N 42 17.739, W 83 44.823

.

This is right across the street from the LOTUS dealer parking lot on Main street near M-14. It looks like a dirt alleyway, but is officially owned by the Ann Arbor Parks and is the official entrance to Bluffs Park. It is private property on either side of the dirt entranceway.

Note: The first stage is near a parking lot owned by the Fraternal Order Of Elks. If you park there you will be subject to towing/ticketing.

This is a little used park (due to the difficulty of parking) that is absolutely phenominal. You won't believe your eyes. Tall hills, deep ravines, and rivulets abound. Narrow trails give it a rustic, trailblazing feel.

The first stage is a 118mL clear oil sample container and the second stage is a 35mm microfilm container (4"x4"x2" square plastic box). The final stage is a 1.5 gallon pretzel jar full of great stuff.

On Wednesday April 30th I returned to Bluffs Park to place the Ann Arbor Parks permit stickers in the cache and its stages. I had the Ann Arbor Parks Natural Area Preservation division's industrial GPS with me to mark an area that they burned and marked all of the stages of this cache with it (a Trimble GeoExplorer 3). It gave me stage 1 at N 42 17.54765, W 83 44.87747 Way cool unit!
