Voorhee's Rock Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: From the Northern Region Office, New Jersey State Parks Department:

Over a year ago New Jersey enacted a policy that all geocachers must obtain a permit to have their cache on State Park property. We have informed all geocaching host that this is their responsibility and have given them ample time to go about getting their permits. At this time, over a year later, there are still several caches that haven’t complied.

We ask that as the land managers for the attached properties we would like to have these illegal caches removed.

Based on the list provided by the state, I am forced to archive this listing. If you have a permit, get a permit or don't believe your cache is on state park/forest land, please contact me via email. Make sure you include the GC code.

If you don't plan to get a permit, please remove your geocache so it doesn't become geo-trash.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Voorhee's State Park on Rt. 513, Glen Gardner. It is about .60 of a mile on a trail to the cache.

Enter the State Park and you may park at the Hoppock Grove parking area complete with rest room facilities. Cross the road and take one of the trails. You will pass by a babbling brook and cross over four small streams to get to the site. Stop at the front office and get a trail guide. As you walk on the trail there are 1 to 25 marked trees and the guide will identify each tree. This cache is located approx. 25 feet behind a Northern Red Oak tree (which by the way -Trivia- is the offical State Tree) and is a green ammo box. When you find the cache if you look to the south across the way to the other mountain, if the trees are not full, you will see the Hagedorn State Psychiatric Hospital. Along the trail you may see some old remains of stone buildings. Back in the 1930's the Civilian Conservation Corps maintained a camp and housed as many as 200 men. The CCC was responsible for planting of forest trees, picnic sites, roads, and trails throughout the park.
