This cache is located near Camp Milroy, better known as Cheat Summit Fort.
Cheat Summit Fort was constructed in 1861 by Union soldiers to control access to the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike. Near by you'll find the cemetery, be sure to check it out while you're there, and then proceed to the observation area for a great view.
To get to this cache, drive US 250 South from Elkins. Just before US 250 crosses the Shavers Fork of the Cheat River, there is a road to the right. It is marked with signs. The parking area is 1 mile up this road. The cache is then a 0.15 mile hike.
When you arrive, read the sign about the fort. Then head up the trial in front of you. You'll come to a sign with information about the earthworks. Continue up the trail past the observation deck in the center of the fort and past the earth works on the upper side of the fort. You'll then be on an old strip mine road. The cache is about halfway between the fort and the strip mine to the left of the road.
The cache is under a rock and hidden very well with part of an old tree, some limbs, and a piece of bark. Please rehide it the way you found it.
