Geocache Description:

This cache should only be done at low tide. It is a 40 min walk on the beach from the parking lot Go to the posted coordinates The cache is @ 550 meters at 81 degrees down the beach. Read the long description if you want the technical bits of this calculation. Scramble just to the top of the bank. This area can be wet & slippery and is Otter land.

Original description We've had to relocate this cache due to severe erosion & safety problems at this location. We've relocated it 550 meters away at 81deg. 29min. 44.0666sec. True (new position is 10U 476706/5371306). New position is at the base of a tall tree. There's a log laying beside this tree; we've placed a stick close by with pink/black flagging as a reference. CACHE INSIDE GIANT TREE ROOT. OLD RUSTED CHAIN ATTACHED TO THIS TREE. PLEASE MAKE SURE THE LID OF THIS CACHE IS PROPERLY RESEALED AND REHIDE IT THE WAY YOU FOUND IT! In order to keep quality items in caches, please state what you removed from the cache and what you put into it when you log it on our cache page. Presume all compass bearings are TRUE. USE 19 DEG. EAST DECLINATION. Please note: 19 deg. East declination is only applicable on a small portion of Vancouver Island, as declination varies with distance, and is constantly changing as the magnetic pole is constantly drifting. So, in most cases, “TRUE” North wouldn’t really be “TRUE”, as it would vary depending on location. However if we all use 19 deg. declination, then we will all be looking at the same thing. Make sure you are well away from metal objects, when using any compass. At least 20 meters from a car and one half a meter from a wrist watch. Cheap compasses won’t ‘cut’ it. You need to see individual degrees. This is about all you can expect from a compass! TEAM KFWB GPS WE THE SCOUTALOT TEAM ARE PRIVILEGED TO HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO ADOPT THIS GREAT KFWB CACHE!
