Geocache Description:

Due to a cache vandal, the Emma Dean cache is now inside the Glen Canyon Conservancy (GCC). The coordinates take you to the Emma Dean boat where the cache was originally located. Now, you must enter the GCC and tell an employee that you are a Geocacher and would like to have the cache. Please feel free to exchange travel bugs and geocoins as they will be secure inside the building. If the GCC is closed, take a picture of the Emma Dean and post to get credit for the find.

Major John Wesley Powell made his first journey down the Colorado River in 1869. This was an awesome feat considering that he had previously lost his right arm in the Civil War battle of Shiloh. Major Powell made his second trip through the Grand Canyon in 1871. In 1881, Powell became Director of the US Geological Survey. To commemorate his contributions and explorations the lake formed behind the mighty Glen Canyon Dam bears his name: Lake Powell. Finding this cache does not require getting inside the row boat. This cache is the starting point and hopefully the future ending point of the Crank Bait Travel Bug. "Thus the Grand Canyon is a land of song. Mountains of music swell in the rivers, hills of music billow in the creeks, and meadows of music murmur in the rills that ripple over the rocks. Altogether it is a symphony of multitudinous melodies. All this is the music of waters." - Major John Wesley Powell
