Geocache Description:

It’s an easy ramble along the Florida Trail to Ross Prairie, but will you find the right oak? Heck, will you even find the trailhead? Follow the orange blazes!

Gnarled by age, the limbs of an old sand live oak provide silent testimony to years of unfettered growth here on the edge of Ross Prairie. Underfoot, its fallen leaves crunch like cornflakes. This is the transition zone, an ecotone where the sandhill habitat meets the open prairie. Stand under the shade of this oak and admire its glory. Cache is a clear Sterlite container with initial contents of two new Matchbox cars, two Silly Putty, six funky pencils, and a sea urchin shell.
The Florida Trail crosses SR 200 just south of SR 484. Watch for the Cross-Florida Greenway sign, slow down at the the speed limit sign. Pull off on the right shoulder. Orange blaze leads you into the woods. Yes, you could cross the open prairie but that might be a little more difficult than following the trail, since the prairie does fill with water. Only a 1/4 mile hike to cache. FOOT TRAFFIC ONLY, please!
