The Tour de Fondulac series is a group of 9 caches that will introduce you to Fondulac Park District properties … some that you probably never knew existed. All nine caches are located within Fondulac Park District park land … which means they are all within just a few miles of each other. The first eight caches are micro caches … they contain clues that will enable you locate the ninth cache … namely the Tour de Fondulac Finale. All of these caches were placed with permission of the Park District … my thanks for the Park District Director’s enthusiastic support of geocaching.
Your ultimate goal should be to visit all 8 micro caches, log your visit, and collect the clues to the final cache. The clue in each micro cache is a playing card number and suit printed at the top of the log. You should make a note of the number and suit in each cache. The details on how to use these clues are available on the cache page for the Tour de Fondulac Finale cache.
Bring your own pen or pencil to log your cache find. The eight micros are a mixture of key safes, 35mm film canisters and cigar tubes. All eight hiding methods/schemes are different … sorry. Some are easy to see if you get in the correct position. But, a few are completely covered … so you’ll have to move something to see those caches. None are buried. And none are in dangerous or illegal locations. The terrain is kid friendly … although you might not want your kids exposed to the side of your personality that appears when you can’t find a cache. Please tell in your logs if you used the clue or not.
Cache specific info:
This cache is located in the vicinity of the Fondulac Park District Administration Office building. It is also very close to the start of Phase I of the River Trails of Illinois. This is an asphalt trail that extends from East Peoria to Morton. Bring your bikes, skates or hiking shoes and enjoy the trail … after you find the cache of course. This area always seems to have people around, so discretion during the cache hunt is required.
