Big Bertha Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

cache-advance: Hello,

During a routine cache page audit, it was discovered that your cache apparently no longer exists and/or your page has been disabled for an extended period of time. The disable feature is meant to be used only as a temporary measure to alert cachers to a potential problem that will soon be corrected.

As such we will be archiving your cache. If you wish to replace the cache at some point, just email me with the cache name, and waypoint ID and we will unarchive it for you.

Thanks.

Geocache Description:

Big Bertha

This is a multi-cache requiring a visit to two points in Kitsilano, which will provide specific digits needed to obtain the location of the actual cache located in the vicinity of Stanley Park. The cache can be located in less than an hour, either by bike or car. Parking is possible within 400 metres of the cache.

The container is a 2 inch diameter, 1 inch high tupperware, purple in colour with a translucent snap-on lid. To access the cache, you need to physically climb into a very large cedar stump - see the picture linked below. Once you are standing inside the stump, the cache container is actually located in a 10" high slit of the 14" diameter conifer within armsreach of you as you stand in Big Bertha.
**NOT ADVISABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 10 YEARS OLD TO ATTEMPT ENTRY INTO THE "BIG BERTHA" STUMP, DUE TO 9' HEIGHT OF STUMP.**
Be discreet as you climb in, so that passers-by do not spot you in your surreptitious mission!

Initial contents are merely a pencil, paper-strip log, and two foreign coins. In consideration of the space limitations in the 2" diameter tupperware, please only trade small items: coins, paperclips, etc.

OK, now here are the instructions for locating the actual cache. You need to visit two points to obtain 8 unique digits A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H, plus a 9th digit J:

1. Go to N49° 15.851’ W123° 10.389’ .
You are now on the curb of the sidewalk on a storefront on W. Broadway in Kitsilano. (The store is named after something integrally related to Geocaching.)

Record the 4-digit street number of this store:
Storefront number = ABCD

2. Go the North-East corner of West 8th and Dunbar (at approx. N49°15.946’ W123°11.009), located just a few blocks west of the storefront point. On this corner, you will see there the year the sidewalk was paved.

Record the year you see in the sidewalk:
Sidewalk year = EFGH

3. Now, we give you the value for the 9th required digit, which is the widely-known answer to this chemistry question:

What is the number of hydrogen atoms in a methane molecule?
# of H atoms in a methane molecule = J

4. The cache container is located in the “Big Bertha” stump-cache, located at:

north 49°EH.BGA’ west 123°BF.JED’
