Geocache Description:

Each year the East Bay Regional Park District holds an event known as the Trails Challenge. Park staff and volunteers write descriptions of their favorite trails, which are compiled into a booklet featuring the top 20 trails for that year (see www.ebrp.org).

In honor of the (then) 10-year anniversary of Trails Challenge, I have placed caches on five of the featured trails.

The Robert’s/Redwood Trail is an especially nice one. It takes you past a huge variety of plant life: California Bay Laurel, Monterey Pine, Elderberry, Madrone, Redwood, ferns, etc. However, a good part of the Redwood hike is steep, and there are lots of which-way-should-I-go trail junctions, so the featured hike is not for beginners. The cache is fairly close to the closest parking area, so the hike to the cache itself is not too challenging.

Nearly all of this hike takes place in a shady corridor of large trees which is great for hikers and wonderful for their doggie pals, but not too good for Geocaching. Getting a satellite fix here is a real challenge. The coordinates above are my best guess. ***Plan on using the hints to find this one***.

This cache is about 3-feet south of the Madrone trail. No need to bushwhack or trample plants. Please cover it well after you have made the find.

The cache container is a good-sized lock-and-lock.
