Geocache Description:

Jennings Environmental Education Center located North of Butler, PA.

Near Old Stone House on Rt528.

Mostly flat terrain with some gentle slopes.

The coordinates above are for the parking area near the trailhead.

Please don't let the Terrain Rating scare you. The terrain is easy but rated high due to the distance you need to walk to get the clues and then the cache. So come on out and try this one.

This cache is dedicated to a Fantasy character:
DRIZZT DO'URDEN created by R.A. Salvatore.

He is watching you
Drizzt was born in Menzoberranzan deep below the deepest caves in a land called the Underdark, were he was trained as a warrior.
The Drow society is an evil race and Drizzt left his people and lived in the nearby caves and had constant battles against the Drows sent to capture him. Before escaping to the caves, he rescued a Oynx figure of a black panther that has the ability to summon a magical black panther ( Guenhwyvar ) from the Astral Plane. Together they are an unbeatable duo and have many great adventures in the Underdark and on the surface. When they reach the surface, they meet an old blind ranger who teaches Drizzt the ways of the surface world and MOST IMPORTANTLY the way of the land and forest!
He vows to become a ranger and follow the path of good, his true calling!

Jennings Education Center is aprox. 300 acres and is open 8am to sunset, seven days a week for hiking and other nature related activities.

The center is named for Dr. Otto Emery Jennings, a famous botanist and naturalist who first discovered the blazing star prairie area.
This small relict prairie in the midst of the eastern deciduous forest is one of the few remaining areas of a once greater eastward extension of the true prairie that stretched from the Rocky Mountains to the Appalachians. Jennings was established in the late 1950s to protect and conserve a beautiful prairie flower, the Blazing Star. Early August is the best time to view the blooming of thousands of blazing stars.
The thick cluster of rose-purple flowers on erect stems reach a height of 4-6 feet and have the unusual trait of blooming from the top downward.
Diverse habitat, varying terrain and several miles of walking trails provide the center visitor with opportunities to view and photograph over 386 species of plants, 134 species of birds and a large variety of animals.
