This is a 4-part multi-cache situated in Grizedale forest. The
cache follows the six mile black BIKE route in a clockwise
direction and is suitable for biking or walking. The starting point
is Bogle Crag car park at N54 19.843 W003 01.107, which is
just south of the visitor centre.
Grizedale forest is very unique because over the last 25
years it has been home to up to 100 sculptures hidden
throughout the forest. The Gremlins grew up just to the south of
here, so we have many happy memories of sculpture hunting, walking
and biking throughout this woodland. Gremlin K has seen 88 of the
94 sculptures, which are mainly made of natural materials, so each
year new ones are built whilst the others are left to naturally
decay. We have therefore decided to take you on a journey to find
some of our favourite sculptures hidden within the forest.
The co-ordinates on this page take you to your first sculpture.
As you approach the sculptures you will notice smaller wooden
sculptures in the shape of animals. These are the way
markers that help locate sculptures hidden off the main track.
You will need to find the woodland way marker and choose the
correct animal from the options below, which will give you the
co-ordinates to the next sculpture, where you will find another way
marker:
Which animal is guarding Sculpture 1:
1. Deer N54 20.615 W003 00.421
2. Squirrel N54 20.388 W003 00.396
3. Fox N54 20.801 W003 00.461
Which animal is guarding Sculpture 2:
1. Mole N54 19.468 W003 00.339
2. Badger N54 20.152 W003 00.471
3. Frog N54 19.906 W003 00.303
Which animal is guarding Sculpture 3:
1. Otter N54 19.734 W003 00.196
2. Caterpillar N54 19.556 W003 00.418
3. Rabbit N54 18.896 W003 00.257
The correct answer for Sculpture 3 will lead you to the final
cache box located at another sculpture. The usual encrypted
clue will help in locating the final cache box (part 4).
We would love to see any pictures of your travels, but please
don't put any pictures of the final sculpture on the website
because people could cheat and go straight there!
A map can be obtained from the centre, which contains more
information on the many sculptures along the route. There is also a
café, shop and toilets as well as bike hire (see www.grizedalemountainbikes.co.uk).
HAPPY HUNTING
