The trail: The Farewell Trail is a relatively new mountain bike single-track connecting the Tumalo Falls trailheads with the Mrazek Trial to the north. It provides a way for cyclists to complete a 9.5-mile loop combined with the beautiful North Fork Trail (one-way uphill for cyclists). To reach just the cache via the Farewell Trail, you are looking at 600' of elevation gain and a mile to the cache, which is why this is recommended as the downhill leg when cycling. Fun hike in either direction.
Getting there: The southern trailhead is at N 44°01.910' W 121°33.873' just before the Tumalo Falls parking lot, a Forest Fee area. If driving, go west out of Bend on Skyliner Road to its end where it turns right across Tumalo Creek. After the bridge, take a left at the fork on a gravel road to the Tumalo Falls parking lot. There are several ways to bicycle there; get a map available at bike shops or the Forest Service.
Further adventures: After the cache, you can return the way you came or continue on many miles of trails, including a splendid 12-mile plus run down into Shevlin Park.
