Geocache Description:

Parking is available at N39.52.947 W086.19.345. Trail head is N39.52.863 W086.18.795.

Cache is a 1 qt thermos. In a clearing near the cache, you will find a post with grave markers from old graves. Nearby is the foundation of an old homestead. If you go beyond the foundation, BE CAREFUL - there is an open cistern there. Wouldn't want you night cachers or any children falling in. This is such a nice area, we wanted people to have another opportunity to enjoy the woods that are so close to Indy. If you are lucky and the gates are open, you can maybe park closer but when the scheduled activities are over, the gate will be locked again. This is not a city park that is opened dawn to dusk. They open it only when they have events scheduled.

We have approval for this cache. Please stay on the trails in this area. Following the trail from the trailhead is easy using the following instructions. Approximately 400 feet from the start of the trail, there is a sign and the trail splits. If you take the right trail you will be up away from the lake. When the trail splits again (approx .17 from trail head), use the right trail to go to the cache/homestead area. If you choose to go left at the sign, you will eventually be walking on a road by the lake. This route gives you some nice views of the lake but may be the wetter route if the lake is up. Follow the road until you round a bend and see the old road leading up to the homestead. Your GPS will tell you that you need to go up the hill before that but please use the path rather than bushwack. We want to honor the park's request that we use only the trails in this area. PLEASE REHIDE THE CACHE WELL!
