Geocache Description:

Golden Horseshoe Multi-Cacher Multi-Cache
Stage 7 of the GHMCMC series.
Dam That's Big
by TrimblesTrek

Hidden over four years ago, initially as a brainstorm of Flick, the GHMCMC has pretty much run it's course as a cache series.

So, as of July 1, 2007, the FINAL stage of the GHMCMC series will be removed. Each of the individual caches will continue as standalone caches at the discretion of the individual cache owners.

Thanks to everyone who participated in hiding the caches, and to the hundreds of cachers who found the various caches!

This cache has been hidden near a section of the Elora-Cataract Trailway... a forty-seven kilometer, multi-use trailway linking parks, watersheds and communities in south-central Ontario. During your cache hunt, you will visit the Belwood Conservation Area, and the Shand Dam.

Access: A user fee of $3.50 per person is required to park your vehicle in the park. BUT, as a user of the Elora-Cataract Trailway, you are allowed into the park, on foot, via the Trailway. Darned decent of them I'd say!

When we hid the cache, we parked on a local road near the entrance to Belwood Conservation Area and walked across the road to joint the Trailway. From there, it's about 850m as the crow flies to the cache. Since none of us are crows though, you'll have to navigate a couple of obstacles to get to the cache area.

The cache is hidden on the North side of the Grand River, so you'll have to get across it somehow. We stayed on the Trailway and walked across Shand Dam, then made our way down to the river via a well marked trail. It's possible to wade across the river too... the local fishermen do it all the time. In all, we walked about 1.5km to the cache site. Depending on how you tackle it, your mileage may vary.

The cache initially contained the usual assortment of trinkets, log book, pencils etc. It has been hidden well so please take care to rehide the cache so it can't been seen.

2003/08/06 - The cache is in exactly the same location as it was originally, but has been concealed better. This is a tricky hiding spot. You will not be able to see the container until you physically moved a lever-like item that is concealing the cache. Decrypt hint #3 if you want the complete spoiler!
