Sportsman's Island Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

West Texas Reviewer: As there's been no cache to find for years, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If the owner wishes to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future (not to exceed 15 days from the date of this entry), just contact me (by e-mail), and assuming it still meets the current Guidelines, I will consider unarchiving this cache.

Please be advised this is not a guarantee that this geocache will be unarchived. Many factors will go into my decision. The most important of which is how you responded to geocachers who tried to communicate with you regarding the problem(s) with this geocache hide and how you communicated with me, the West Texas Reviewer.

Geocache Description:

This one requires a boat because it's on an island, so if you don't have a boat...find someone that does and borrow it!

Hi, this cache is in Stephens County on Hubbard Creek Lake. You will have to have a boat to find this one since it is on an island. From Breckenridge, go North on FM 3099 (beside Wal-Mart)about 4 1/2 miles and follow the signs to the public boat ramp. They paved the roads all the way to the boat ramp so you should have no problems. Launch and go West to: N 32 49.072 / W 098 58.881 and beach your boat on the island. Get out(tie your boat off)and head South for about 75 yards and the cache is under a big oak tree. There's some cactus but you can avoid it pretty easily. It is a plastic container inside a metal box with a hinged lid that latches with a bolt. I did this so the Catalina goats that run wild on the island wouldn’t eat the cache. The contents of the cache are: a pen, click pencils, log book, a battery powered fan, 3 shallow crankbaits, a rattle trap, a deep crankbait, and a multi-function tool. Be sure to bring a camera and take some pictures of the goats.(if you can find them)They have long spiraling horns and are very cool looking. They have been there for years, since the lake filled up I've been told. Good luck and while you're there you might as well go fishing...I did. Chad31
