The cache situated 800 meters from parking spot, but well worth the
struggle.
Det ca 4 meter långa Brandskogsskeppet är en av
vårt lands märkligaste hällristningar som
upptäcktes av Einar Kjellén. Det skiljer sig från
andra hällristningsskepp på flera punkter. Dels är
det ovanligt stort, dels syns 6 paddlande män i skeppet (som
väl snarast är att betrakta som en större kanot) och
dels är djurhuvudena på stävarna tydligt
framställda. De förefaller vara älghuvuden. Det
unika i bilden är att människorna är så
tydligt framställda. På andra hällristningar syns
bemanningen endast som streck. Dessutom får vi veta att man
använt paddlar för att föra fram skeppet. En stor
mansfigur under skeppets akter förbryllar också. Är
det havsguden som skjuter på, eller försöker samme
potentat dra skeppet ner i djupet? De delvis unika detaljerna och
skillnaderna har fått vissa forskare att antyda att
ristningen tillverkats under järnåldern, snarare än
under bronsåldern. Flera ristningar finns på samma
häll, bl.a. en fotsula, ytterligare en människofigur och
flera skepp. 22 meter sydväst om Brandskogsskeppet finns
två gravar, s.k. röseliknande stensättningar,
möjligen från sen bronsålder eller äldre
järnålder.

The great Brandskogsskeppet.
The approximately 4 meter long Brandskogsskeppet is one of our
land's greatest stone carvings, or petro glyphs, which was
discovered by Einar Kjellén. It sets itself apart from other
petro glyphs in many ways. Partially because it is unusually large,
parts show paddling men in the ship (which could actually be
considered a large canoe) and partially because the animal heads on
the stern are so clearly portrayed. They appear to be moose heads.
What is so unique in the picture is that the people are so clearly
portrayed. On other petro glyphs people are portrayed as stick
figures. Also we are shown that they used paddles to move the ship.
A large human figure under the ship's stern is perplexing. Is it
the God of the Sea who is helping propel them, or, is the same
being trying to pull the ship down into the murky depths? The
partially unique details and differences have influenced some
researchers to consider that the petro glyph was created under the
Iron Age, rather than the Bronze Age. Many petro glyphs are found
on the same stone, amongst them, the sole of a foot, another human
figure, and other ships. 22 meter southwest of Brandskogsskeppet
two graves are found, the so-called cairn like placed stones,
possibly from the late Bronze Age or older Iron Age.
