Your quest will begin on a hiking trail running parallel to a nice bluff line. Soon you will make a U-turn and pass through a corridor with massive rocks on either side of the trail - a really neat spot! The trail will soon make another U-turn as it goes up on top of a narrow flat ridge with lots of wildflowers and several nice sunset spots. The trail takes advantage of a split in the bluff to lead you down the other side of the ridge to the base of the bluffs; from here you can follow the trail along the bluffline or you can make a hard left and explore more bluffs on your own.
This is an easy half-mile hike that begins where the trail crosses Washington County Road 849 (a.k.a. Forest Road 1743). DIRECTIONS (updated 5-27-03): This road intersects with Hwy 16 a little over a mile west of Lake Weddington. Drive North seven tenths of a mile to the trail crossing at N 36 06.551 W 094 23.319. On the left-hand side of the road is a large rock with blue paint on it. The trail crosses the same forest road again about six tenths of a mile into your hike. We suggest that you go ahead and explore the bluffs up to this second crossing.
The cache is a gallon rubbermaid jar, covered with cammo tape. The jar's mouth is only 4 inches wide. The original contents were: log book, emergency blanket, whistle, pocket pliers, flashlight, crayons and coloring books, silly putty, NBA souvenir ticket, deck of cards, colored chalk, and a Crawford County millennium coin.
We have many more geocaching pictures on our home page.
