Geocache Description:

G:UK cache rating

The cache is close to the shore on the Arne peninsular with views across the islands in Poole Harbour towards the harbour entrance.

Approach Arne either from Corfe Castle or, more likely, coming through Wareham. You’ll find parking at N50 41.390 W002 02.468 – be aware this car park is locked at dusk. From the car park it is 0.8 miles as the GPS flies to the cache.

This area is an extensively managed natural habitat and is home to many species of British birds. I suggest you follow the sign-posted nature trail through the woods. This will play havoc with the GPSr but don’t despair you’ll be out of the trees at least 600 metres before you need any degree of accuracy.

As you approach the cache be sure to take in the views from the viewpoint at N50 41.690 W002 01.579. From here you should be able to make out five islands in the harbour – Long Island as well as Round, Green, Furzey and Brownsea Island.

The cache could also be approached by boat if you have access to one with a shallow enough draft and are familiar with navigating Poole Harbour.
