Ridge cache with views. Well defined dirt road-turns-trail to the cache. Trail gains about 1700ft from bottom to top. 4WD accessible to within about a quarter to eighth of a mile away. Good motorcycle area.
I personally placed the cache on a dirt bike, and retrieving the cache would be best done with the same (except for running and hiking), however I have seen 4WD vehicles in the same area. Trail conditions vary depending on time of year. At 6500ft, the area is generally snowy december through february. Rockslides sometimes make 4WD impassable, rangers clear them out a week later. In other words, 4WD is a maybe :)
To get to the cache: Exit 5 freeway at "Frazier Park" exit. Turn west off offramp on Frazier Mountain Park Road. Continue past first stop sign, 3 miles to the first paved right; "Mt Pinos Way" (at the big "Frazier Park" sign). Take a right at "San Carlos Trail". After the school, you will see a dirt road leading off to the east (8N01). Continue on 8N01 to the first fork, where a trail strikes west. Take the trail off of 8N01 and follow it all the way up to the top of the mountain. Check out the nice views of the San Juaquin valley to the north. Continue with the trail until you hit a well defined fork after a long rutted uphill. Turn south at the fork, and continue until that trail stops, at the very top of the mountain. Here there is a benchmark (FRAZIER MTN F4 RM 1), but don't get your hopes up, for whatever reason it is not on the benchmarks section on geocaching.com.
From the top of the mountain your GPS should indicate you must travel to the east, so find a good way through the initial thicket of brush. Don't worry, once you get past the first bushes another trail develops and leads straight to the cache. The cache is on the very lip of the ridge in a low lying green bush. The kind with those prickly leaves. The container is in plain sight, but it covered with a big granite rock to hold it down. I'd recommend that everyone take similar measures, as the wind is quite intense up on the ridge and could easily blow the container off the ridge. Cache is in a green-topped tupperware container, about 6 inches in diameter.
Cache contents are a homemade paper and staples logbook, a Linux sticker, 4 stamps, a peice of the 5 freeway I got from 'Home on the Strange', some kind of crystal or plastic thing, some pens (watch out, one of them leaks), a plastic turtle, a pack of PEZ, and a "candy keyboard".
If you see a guy around there on an old blue Yamaha IT, it's probably me :)
