In 1847 a group of newly arrived immigrants from Posen, Germany eagerly took up their land allotments in their new land. The local Aborigines spoke of danger here but the warnings were ignored as the industrious settlers built their "valley of hope" - Hoffnungsthal.
Then, on a cold winters night in 1853, the valley revealed its dark secret spelling the end of the dream for the small close-knit community.
Following the disaster most families moved on and the village of Hoffnungsthal faded from existence.
Imagine how it was 150 years ago as you search for this cache. This is now private farmland so don't disturb any stock and do restrain any geopets.
Thanks to Barossa Helicopters for permission to use their paddock. Perhaps you could hire their chopper to scout other Barossa caches - what a buzz!
