The Ohlone Wilderness Trail (visit link) runs from Fremont, over Mission Peak, through Sunol Regional Park, through the Ohlone Wilderness Area to Del Valle Regional Park, 28 miles overall. This cache is atop a high peak with a 360d panoramic view, not far off the trail, approximately half way between the Sunol and Del Valle parks. It is a 20 mile round trip, or straight through, hike from either park.
I hiked in from Sunol then called someone to come pick me up at Del Valle, so I could go on through. I almost regretted that decision; the Del Valle end of the trail has more elevation changes, and maybe my cache isn't quite halfway.
If you want to make this an overnighter, there is a campsite nearby.
Anticipate a $4.00 parking fee and $2.00 wilderness permit.
The cache is the regular ammo can in a typical hiding spot. Initially it contained:
