I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet favour to the man of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
-- Ecclesiastes 9:11
This is the second of two caches we've placed in the Laguna Seca Raceway area. This one is near a spot that gives you a great full view of the whole main raceway in one direction, and a view of the county shooting range in the other. The cache is quite close to a very nice flat rock suitable for picnics.
This is one of the great spots from which to view races, but is quite peaceful and lovely when there's no action on the track.
Access by road through the Laguna Seca Recreation Area. Parking will be a problem for this one some days; you'll have to be clever once you get in. On non-race days, you can get in for only $5., or hike in for free at all times from the Fort Ord Public Lands (it's a four-star hike if you do it that way, click here for a trail map). On race days, you will have to buy a ticket to get in via car.
This is dog-friendly for the most part, although leash laws and canine restrictions are probably enforced on race days, and is kid-friendly with supervision (kids with car fixations will go nuts for this one). Mountain bikes can make the approach on paved roads and will have to be parked a few hundred yards from the cache site itself. Restrooms and showers are available fairly near by, or you may ask one of the kindly resident snowbirds if you can use their RV facilities.
The cache is a small single-serving tupperware container, carefully camouflaged to blend in with its surroundings. The spot is obviously used by non-cachers for picnics, etc. quite a bit, so try to think like a cacher when looking for this and be extra careful in re-hiding it to make sure it's out of the obvious view of passersby. You should be able to search and enjoy the cache in relative peace most days, however. There's a pencil nub with the log, but we suggest you bring your own pen if possible. Initial contents include some exotic coins, logbook and letter, a few motor cars, and a very nice woven bookmark we retrieved from Green Acres II quite some time ago.
