The cache is located a short distance off from one of the main trail at Colchester Pond.
Colchester pond is a great recreational area that's popular for boating, fishing and hiking. The views are excellent and there's a nice selection of wildlife. While scouting the location for the cache, two deer rambled by us! No bikes or motorized vehicles are allowed on the trials. A very nice place.
To get to Colchester pond, follow Route 2A into Colchester Village Main Street. At the traffic light, turn onto East road. After .2 miles, turn right onto Depot road. Follow the road (bearing left several times). It becomes Colchester Pond road (a dirt road) and continues across a one-way bridge. Bear right after the bridge to parking located at N44 33.049 W073 07.508.
The cache is a .50 mile walk down the main walking path at the pond. It starts at the parking area, goes towards the boat launch area, then parallels the water. We rated the terrain as a 1.5. It's a plesant walk although every time I've been there, the path has been muddy. You'll want to bring high shoes or boots if there's been rain lately. Otherwise it's nice level walking all the way. We recommend you stay on the trail until you about 100 feet from the cache.
The cache is an ammo can located just over 100 feet off the beaten path. Initial contents include a Red Alert PC Game, flashlight with batteries, Bud blinking pin, toy lizard, rabbits foot, porcupine animal, 3 pencil sharpeners, US flag pin, mini baseball bat, sliver beads and a few other goodies.
Even though the ammo can is weather proof, we've put the contents in zip lock bags to make sure they stay dry with condensation and all. Please put the associated items (log in one, "stuff" in another") in their appropriate bags.
