EcoCache - Water Reclamation Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

GeoWyrm: There is no longer a wetland. There is no longer a road, or a parking lot. Most of the signage has already been removed and we needed permission from the construction crew to get past and retrieve the cache itself. Just in the nick of time. That was an incredible run - thanks 3jaze and DanOCan for setting it up, maintaining it and trusting me to decide on the final day.

Geocache Description:

This off-set Calgary cache is at the site of a novel experiment in urban surface water management. The location and natural area park was spearheaded by Robert G. Stevenson and the Calgary River Valleys Committee. Coordinates above are for the parking area.

“To ensure accuracy of the research being conducted at the site itself, it is requested that no pooches be allowed in the site itself, stay on the trails, and view pond life only from decks or platforms provided.”

It is a pretty “kid friendly” cache and distances are well within one kilometer. Pay attention to the signs as there will be a few questions to test your reading and observation skills. Your correct answers will lead you to the final cache. As the site is a work in progress, be prepared for good Alberta mud if you visit the location after a rainfall.

A good place to start would be at N51° 00.552 W114° 11.229, and after that you will be on your own. Spend a bit of time at the informative signs located in the shelter as well.

Now for the test:

A. Fill in the blank. “(_______________) is beneficial in small amounts, but a sign of trouble in large masses.” Now count the number of letters there are in your answer. This will be the value for A. Should be easy if you start at the right place.

B. Go to the highest elevation. How many critters with hooves are depicted on the southernmost sign?

C. How many critters (not rooted) in total are found on the Upland Habitat sign? Be careful with this one, it may be a stinker.

D. How many birds IN TOTAL are there shown on the Aspen Parkland Sign and the Shore Birds Sign?

E. “Bridging the Gap” in the shelter. How many MAIN types of problems must we overcome?

The final cache is located at: N51° 00.ABC W114° 11.DE

Substitute the answers to your questions into the cache coordinates.

The cache is a smallish (1kg) peanut butter jar containing pencils, logbook, cachenote, various trade items and, of course, “find” cards. Will you get the THE FTF card? Please try to rehide the cache carefully.

Happy hunting and good luck.
