Geocache Description:

A medium hike to a high point near Sligo

A 30-40 minute steady climb awaits you to the top of Knocknarea, which at 328 metres dominates the skyline to the east of Sligo.

At the top is a large cairn 55 metres wide by 10 metres high, which according to folklore is the resting place of the mythical iron age Queen Maeve. Archaeologists believe it may date back to 3,000 BC.

It is considered bad luck to remove a stone from the cairn, But good luck to carry one up the hill and deposit it on the cairn.

The cache is situated on top of Knocknerea but not on the cairn. It is a 2lt Tupperware box with all the usual swaps and log book.

Enjoy the views as on a good day they are breathtaking.
