Geocache Description:

This cache was placed in our Hwy. 44 series and will take you to one of the spectacular views of Mt. Hood from the east side as well as other snow covered mountains, so don’t forget your camera.

With a desire to create a caching loop from The Dalles or Hood River, our preference is to approach from the east as it provides many more opportunities for the wonderful mountain views. The roads are good and a 4WD is not necessary except for perhaps the winter season, although some dirt or gravel forest service roads will be encountered.

There are many hiking/mountain biking trails in this national forest area as well as some beautiful campgrounds and streams, so if you want to spend some time, bring appropriate gear and provisions.

From the cache, you can continue up the road for a short distance to the 5 Mile Lookout tower for a panoramic view of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. Rainier, the tip of Mt. St. Helens and the Olympic Mountain Range. The best view is from the top of the lookout tower, but there may be aliens there as the lookout is rented on a daily basis and is usually booked all weekends and most weekdays throughout the spring and summer.
For those that also hunt benchmarks, look for one about 50’ north of the tower and another one even closer.

Park at N45 24.547 W121 28.572 and walk around the gate. Yes, it is okay. :)
